Beautiful Imperfections
I’ve always liked rather raw, unfinished jewellery as compared to perfectly polished pieces that gleam and shine under bright halogen lights in stores. So it would come as no surprise that I’ve fallen in love with Carrie K’s designs. Ever since running into her at the Blueprint event, the organic shapes of her rings and unpolished gemstones in her cufflinks and necklaces kept coming back to me until recently I paid her a visit at her showroom where she showed me a sampling of the new line she was developing as well as some of the crazy cool accessories I chanced upon the previous time.
One of the collections I remembered, one of her best selling collections, included the dainty Charmed Collection which retails at Quintessential that, according to Carolyn, one customer liked so much that she bought 7 bracelets at one go! The exotic skins and colours of the bracelets reflect a more feminine aesthetic of Carrie K. The rough, tarnished silver of the charm acts as a perfect foil to the vibrant colours of the skins and complements the daintiness of the bracelets.
CHARMED COLLECTION
Another of her wonderful collections is the Raw Collection which is made up of uncut, natural agate and jade balanced by delicate silver wires and chains. The thing about this collection that drew my attention was the way Carolyn balanced the beautiful, natural shapes of the agate and jade and worked around the gems to create a collection that was breezy and modern.
RAW COLLECTION
Lastly, and this is the good part, Carolyn introduced me to the new line she is currently developing! This new, tentatively -named Everyday Collection was inspired by everyday items she had around her house, and one of the cutest, most interesting pieces I saw was a silver ring modelled on a twine knot she tied to remind herself of chores to be done. The other pieces included replicas of her engagement ring in gold and silver, meant to be stacked in threes or more, and a nail in rose gold curled to look like ring! These normal, everyday items inspired a world of possibilities for Carolyn and these creations are intensely personal creations.
EVERYDAY COLLECTION
In all, I spent a lovely afternoon chatting with Carolyn, the details of which I’ll babble in another post, and looking at the beautiful creations which she is currently churning out. Based on what I saw in her showroom, I’m fairly certain that the Carrie K line, set to be sold at a brand new multi-label boutique at the Marina Bay Sands this October, will be very well received! After all, as Carolyn told me, “Carrie K is all about celebrating the imperfections in life because that is what makes us unique and interesting!” With such a positive motto, it’s little wonder that she has been so well received both locally and internationally! So keep your eyes peeled for further news from Carrie K!
